Product Description

This special Brie comes from the third-generation Dongé family dairy in Meuse, France, makers of the celebrated Brie de Meaux. We have been sourcing our Brie from the family for at least twenty five years. Considered by many to be the best Brie makers, Luc and Jean-Michel Dongé have won the prestigious Medialle d’Or nine times since 2000 (an award which is usually won only once in a lifetime).
This pasteurised version is produced in very small quantities using the same traditional methods as their Brie de Meaux. The milk is sourced from just thirty local farms, and, most importantly, the curds are hand ladled to preserve their texture. Until recently, this cheese was made exclusively for export to the US but our long history of working with the dairy has meant that we have been able to secure some for our customers.
A little more restrained than its cousin, it is still a great example of a French Brie. Its wrinkled crust encases a glossy paste which is smooth and rich. The flavour is lightly vegetal with a hint of mushrooms.

*A whole Brie de Meaux weighs approximately 3kg. Smaller weights are a cut of a whole cheese.

FAQs

What makes The Fine Cheese Co. unique?

We select and mature traditionally-made artisan cheeses from independent producers who prioritise quality over profit.

For over thirty years we have nurtured and supported the cream of British cheesemakers, and we played an integral role in the revival of traditional British cheesemaking in the early 1990s.

We produce our own range of Partners for Cheese, and our cheese and partners are supplied to hundreds of UK retailers and exported to over 50 countries world-wide.

Who are the founders of The Fine Cheese Co.?

We were founded in 1990 by Ann-Marie Dyas, a renowned judge at both the British and World Cheese Awards and winner of the Guild of Fine Food Lifetime Achievement Award. Ann-Marie was committed to the survival and growth of traditional cheesemaking and to introducing and sharing farmhouse cheeses, as well as the stories behind them, to as wide a public as possible.

Ann-Marie's mission was "To seek out the best, and, when it’s been found, to keep looking". This same tireless pursuit of excellence is the core value across the company.

From the producers we choose to work with to the coffee we serve in our café, we want to give the best possible experience, while continuing to find ways to improve upon it.

Freshly Cut & Wrapped

We unashamedly source, care for and sell the best cheese, because that is what we believe in. Our trained cheesemongers cut every piece to order, and wrap it in our waxed paper. We do this because it is the most respectful way to treat this precious food.
